He later joined the Vincentian Boys Choir, later renamed the National Boys Choir, singing a wide range of Masses which included the Gregorian Chant hymns for St. Pius X Hymnal, and the Australian Parish Hymnal.

During this time he performed principle operatic roles for Opera Melbourne performing leads in Cosi Fan Tutti, Don Pasquale, Die Fledermaus and The Merry Widow.

In 1980, he joined Victoria State Opera Chorus and was there until its 1995 absorption into Opera Australia. The range of operas included the comic operas Die Fledermaus and The Marriage of Figaro through traditional Italian operas Don Carlos and Rigoletto to the heavy German operas The Flying Dutchman and Loghengrin.
